About Ann Dilker

Anne came to jewelry design via pottery. “Clay and textiles have been a part of my life for nearly as long as I can remember. My parents were avid craftspeople and we always had a kiln and a 4-harness loom in the house."

After 10 years as a full time studio potter Anne started making beads in 2005 and was, more or less, forced into jewelry design to provide examples of her beads in use.  It was a natural fit to start working with fiber and mizuhiki (Japanese paper cords) since the beads have big holes, necessary to accommodate the firing rods, and the bulk provided by fiber as a stringing material works really well.

With the exploding interest in braiding, Anne spent this past year concentrating on using braids in jewelry design.  The result is the book Braiding for Beaders that will be available at a reduced price to all members at the meeting.

Anne will talk briefly about ceramic bead making, braiding and non-traditional string materials and will then open the floor to Q & A.  She has been self-employed as an artist for the past 12 years and will be glad to answer questions about earning a living as a bead maker as well as technical question on ceramics or braiding.
